Great Ecology has contributed their design of Woodbridge Waterfront Park to our book. I am really excited about this project because it is not simply a wetland restoration. There are so many layers to this waterfront park, and my favorite aspect is the brownfield to greenfield transition. A brownfield is a site that is considered hazardous or contaminated with pollutants. This site was used for organic chemical manufacturing. The groundwater became contaminated, and the tidal marshes were separated from the river. The site clean-up started in 2009 and the construction of the park is on schedule to be completed this year. Read more about the many layers of Woodbridge Waterfront Park here.
