“Courtney organized a design charette for our summer agriculture entrepreneurship interns.
My favorite part was her ability to communicate the very complex terminology in the field of landscaping architecture with simplicity. Our youth from a rural community was not only exposed in such a way that academically stretched them but provided another view of a career path in agriculture entrepreneurship available to them.
As a result of the activities conducted by Ms. McQueen, our youth was able to build and plant the first community garden constructed in Beaufort County and they became more knowledgeable of planning methodology and architecture nomenclature.
Courtney is leading a movement in design that exposes youth to concepts that prepare them for careers that support maintaining and preserving their environment. I highly recommend that you secure her availability so that your community can benefit from her very strong communication skills.”
“I invited Courtney to be a guest at our Career Day. I was impressed with how she pleasantly engaged and encouraged our children in participating in the discussion about her book. She asked thought provoking questions that extended their thoughts on different topics. Her questioning techniques encompassed all levels of Bloom's Taxonomy.
I would encourage principals and teachers to order the books for both their school and classroom library. I would also, recommend the books for the STEM Program in our schools.
Courtney is an outstanding speaker, educator and writer.”
“Courtney came to share her expertise with us at Career Day!
We had a class discussion about her visit and discussed the things we learned. The children interacting with her through a thorough discussion was great to see and experience.
I would recommend for her to come next year during our Career Week!
Thank you so much for taking your time and energy to speak with our students at Laurel Woods!”
“I used the book Come Plant a Seed for a science project, and used it for writing activities. The book is very creative and an innovative way for children to think of their environment differently.”
Courtney McQueen’s books have been used by graduate students in a school counseling program to broaden their horizons regarding children's literature and career development with elementary students. The books provide opportunities to discuss a range of multicultural education aspects such as race/ethnicity and gender. Also, we discuss career development and engaging students in STEM careers.
On a personal level, my youngest niece has enjoyed the books. She has convinced us to let her have a small garden and she has been on field trips related to ecology, botany, and architecture. Also, our family is involved with the CARE coalition's efforts to clean up toxic zip codes in VA.
These books are informative, but engaging. The illustrations and easy to read text attract young readers and promote literacy. They're a wonderful tool to spark new curiosity and creativity. Exposure is key in developing a well-rounded individual. The activities and books provided by Author McQueen provide opportunities for youth to grow and explore by awakening natural curiosity.
